Dr. Mary L. Droser, Principle Investigator (UCR)
As chair of Earth Sciences at the University of California, Riverside, Dr. Mary Droser initiated the Geoscience Education Outreach Program and has worked to develop a relationship between the department and the City of Riverside and RUSD. Droser has mentored several graduate and undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds, especially students of color and women.
Dr. Bill Phelps, Co-Investigator (RCC)
In addition to teaching a wide variety of Earth Science courses at Riverside City College, Dr. Bill Phelps has performed several outreach activities at local elementary schools in which students are exposed to Earth Sciences through project-based learning activities about rocks, minerals, and fossils.
Dr. Nigel Hughes, Co-Investigator (UCR)
During his tenure as Earth Sciences Undergraduate Advisor, Dr. Nigel Hughes has been responsible for doubling the number of majors in the department through a variety of recruitment programs including overnight field experiences. Hughes is committed to novel forms of geoscience outreach, having written and distributed the first place-based geoscience education story in Bengali language as well as employed crowd sourcing to encourage citizen science
Rosemarie Bisquera, Project Manager (UCR)
Rosemarie Bisquera has her Masters of Science in Geology from the University of California, Riverside. In addition to her time as the project manager for the GEODE program, Bisquera is an adjunct professor at Chaffey Community College where she teaches geology and earth sciences classes.
Jeremy Standerfer, RUSD Riverside STEM Academy High School
Jeremy Standerfer has 18 years experience in science instruction and has taught science and engineering at the Riverside STEM Academy since its inception in 2011. Standerfer previously served as Department Chair for Science at Ramona High School and as Master Teacher in Chemistry from 2002-2006.
Jeff Jambertz, RUSD Poly High School
Jeff Jambertz has 23 years experience in science instruction, served as Department Chair for Science at Polytechnic High School since 2006, and served as Master Teacher in Biology from 2007-2013.
Dr. Gary Coyne, Project Evaluator (UCR)
Dr. Gary Coyne has conducted research on a variety of topics related to education and education policy, most often statistically-driven analyses of educational outcomes. Coyne will coordinate and implement various data collection procedures to address the extent to which the program: 1) is reaching appropriate numbers of students, 2) engaging those student in program activities over time, 3) changes attitudes towards geoscience content knowledge and skills through participation, and 4) promotes the retention of participating students within their various courses of study.
